St. Peter

Picture
St. Peter is the Rock – the imperfect one on whom Jesus built his Church – the visible head of Christ’s church on earth.  He was the apostle who answered Jesus’ question: “who do you say I am?” with “You are the Lord!”  Jesus told them that only His Father could have told Peter that and then told him what his role would be after Jesus returned to Heaven.  From Peter’s time to the present, we have an unbroken line of Popes, Christ’s Vicars on earth who have led us in the path of truth by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Sometimes he is depicted upside down on a cross as he refused to be crucified like Jesus, saying that he was not worthy to die in the same manner.
